John Walker

Bill Cowley is a lifelong resident of Maryland who served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee, the Navy’s construction engineers.  For years in the Pacific, our armed forces had to push the Japanese back toward their homeland island by island, and the Seabees secured these advances. Bill’s unit came ashore immediately after the infantry and Marines established beachheads.  Once ashore, the Seabees operated the heavy equipment that created airfields, roads and hospitals.  To this day Bill remembers the war as “good times and bad times.”  Many years after World War II, Bill’s spiritual strength, strong work ethic, positive energy, and sense of humor are the cornerstones of his life.
