John R. Kenny Jr., a Lieutenant in the Navy as well as a fully licensed pharmacist, was commissioned in June of 1944.    During his time in the Navy, he experienced several historic events that changed the course of America. He was a crew member on several different boats; mainly sub chasers. He played a role in invading and securing Okinawa; his job was to rescue men hit by suicide planes.  He administered first aid to these men, who were usually floating in the water. His last orders during the war were to be sent to Japan for an invasion. He had no plans on coming back alive; as far as he was concerned, an invasion in Japan may as well have been a suicide mission. He later discovered that he would not have to go to Japan because “someone dropped a bomb and the war was over.”
