Creating Communities mission is to harness the power of the arts to build life skills and self-esteem, and foster connections across cultures. We accomplish this by partnering with communities and organizations to reach the underserved and provide direct access to the arts through innovative programs and mentorships.

Barjbara Ullyot

Barbara R. Ullyot was born on January 30, 1926 in [San Diego, California?]. Her father, William Dudley Wright, was a Commander in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in San Diego Harbor. One of Ms. Ullyot’s earliest memories was her eighth birthday aboard her father’s ship in 1934. She and a few friends celebrated her birthday in a small ward room on her father’s destroyer. When they went up on deck to “watch a movie” that Barbara’s father had planned for them, they were surprised to see that every ship in the harbor was playing its search lights across the sky. Although her father led her to believe at the time that the display was just for her, she found out later that the spectacle was in honor of Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s birthday, which was also on January 30th, forty-four years before she was born...
